Dr. Dion Hoe-Lian Goh: Keynote Speaker of the 7th International Conference on Computer Games; Challenges and Opportunities (CGCO’2022)

One of the keynote speakers of CGCO’2022 is Dr. Dion Hoe-Lian Goh, an associate professor at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and information, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Dion Goh has a PhD in computer science. He is currently Associate Professor with Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), where is the Associate Chair for Graduate and Continuing Education in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. His major areas of research are in gamification techniques for shaping user perceptions and motivating behavior, mobile information sharing and seeking, and crowdsourcing. Dion has led a number of funded projects in the use of gamification in mobile content sharing, the use of games for mental health interventions, human computation games for data analytics, mobile tagging, and collaborative querying.

The title of his talk is
User Experience of Games for Crowdsourced Human Computation and the abstract follows:
Human computation harnesses human brainpower to solve problems that computers cannot yet easily solve, while crowdsourcing taps upon the expertise of online users to perform tasks. When combined, crowdsourced human computation has the potential to draw upon large numbers of online users to solve computationally difficult problems. Motivating participation in crowdsourced human computation is a challenging issue and this talk deals with how games could be employed for this purpose. The talk will first present a typology of games for human computation. The main focus of the talk will be a discussion of a series of studies that investigate various aspects of user experience pertaining to such games. Finally, design lessons drawn are presented, together with opportunities for future work.
