Dr. Antonios Liapis: Keynote Speaker of the 7th International Conference on Computer Games; Challenges and Opportunities (CGCO’2022)

One of the keynote speakers of CGCO’2022 is Dr. Antonios Liapis, an associate professor at the Institute of Digital Games, University of Malta.

Dr. Liapis has been graduated in computer engineering at Center for Computer Games Research at the IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has been involved in many game development projects and his work includes computationally intelligent tools for game design, as well as computational creators that blend semantics, visuals, sound, plot and level structure to create horror games, adventure games, shooter games and more. He will speak at our conference on Games and Emotion: how AI can bridge the gap between design and experience.

Abstarct:

This talk discusses how game design builds on different facets of creative work (e.g. levels, rules, visuals, sounds) to create a holistic, interactive experience for the players. How games influence players' emotions and affective states can be captured in many different ways. However, identifying which aspects of games impact players' emotional responses is challenging. This talk elaborates on how artificial intelligence can be used to model, predict, and explain the impact of different facets of games on players' emotions, reviewing several research projects undertaken at the Institute of Digital Games, University of Malta.

The slides of the presentation can be found here and the video is available here.
